Dr. Tom Holmes has been practicing dentistry for over 30yrs, moving to Kingston in 1986. He has always been passionate about dentistry and especially enjoys the day-to-day interactions with his patients and staff members. While he works in a large, busy practice he always finds the time to catch up with the lives of his patients and to find out what they expect of him as a dentist. Throughout his career Dr. Holmes has always strived to make the practice of dentistry a team approach. Many patients have remarked over the years how great the atmosphere is at this office and that makes Dr. Holmes very proud!
Education and Continuing Education
Dr. Holmes graduated in 1982 from Western University of Canada, with an undergraduate degree in Economics, and then graduated from the Schulich School of Medicine (also Western University) in 1986 with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery. Dr. Gordon Lansdown and Dr. Holmes both started as partners in 1986 with the TriDont Dental Centre in Kingston, that later became the Cataraqui Dental Centre, eventually moving to the present location in 2012. Dr. Lansdown and Dr. Holmes have enjoyed a great partnership that has now entered its 4th decade!
Continuing education has always been very important for Dr. Holmes and the Cataraqui Dental Centre. The office takes pride in keeping up with all the latest trends and technology in dentistry.
In 2014 Dr. Holmes completed a Mini Residency in Implant Dentistry.

Even though Dr. Holmes has retired from active involvement in sports, his interest remains strong. The Cataraqui Dental Centre has sponsored hundreds of athletes from hockey, rugby, soccer, baseball and basketball players to cheerleaders, boxers, runners, tri-athletes, and many more. Dr. Nick Cosman and the Cataraqui team are Team Dentist to the Kingston Frontenacs. If you look around, you can still see Dr. Holmes in the local rink, football field, track, basketball court, or anywhere else where local athletes are performing. And now with 3 grandchildren, the next generation of active children will keep Dr. Holmes running.
Outside the Office
Dr. Holmes has been married to Julie since 1983 and they have three daughters, Jennifer (and Mitch) with grandchildren Max and Eliana, Jill, who lives in South America and Rebecca (and Colin) with granddaughter Rosalie.
Of Dr. Holmes’ many interests, they all share one common theme: they must be done outdoors. In the winter, he enjoys downhill skiing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing, while kayaking, playing golf, and road biking take up the summer months. And of course, running after grandchildren has quickly moved up to his favourite activity.
When it's time to relax on cold Monday evenings in the fall, the Wingdocs (established around 1996) get together for Monday Night Football and nibble on a few chicken wings.
